Internships

Perseverance Theatre believes that theatre making is a practice. Therefore PT internships are set up to be immersive experiences in the craft of theatre making under the guidance and supervision of qualified mentors and trained theatre artists. This internship program is an unpaid educational opportunity that provides hands-on learning experience in a nationally recognized regional professional theatre. Interns are provided with a modest perdiem, furnished housing, transportation, and travel to Juneau to make the educational experience affordable. 2017-2018 Season Internships

Season-Long Internships

PERSEVERANCE THEATRE is seeking highly motivated interns for our 2017-2018 season in the following areas:

Stage Management: train with professional stage managers and gain the skills necessary to manage a professional production.

Production Management: train with the Director of Production in the management of all aspects of production. Perseverance produces shows in both Juneau and Anchorage, and interns will gain skills in managing staging and moving productions.

Arts Admin: train with the Director of Development and the Company Manager in grants writing, donor asks, and booking artist’s travel/housing.

Artistic: train with the Artistic Associate and the Artistic Director in direction, casting, and artistic development.

Technical: train with the Technical Director building skills in scenic construction and scenic painting.

Summer Internship
Educational Intern: work with Director of Education on our summer youth education program STAR.

Internships generally run August through May and the summer internship runs May through the beginning of August. A stipend and furnished housing, utilities & transport will be provided. Round trip travel will also be provided.

2017-2018 Technical Direction Intern

Technical Direction Intern

Department: Production
Reports to: Technical Director
Employment Status: Unpaid Internship, Stipend Provided

Summary

  • Under supervision and mentorship of the Technical Director, this position will learn from and participate in all mainstage builds, load-ins, transfers and load-outs of the Mainstage season and special projects.

Work Schedule

  • Monday-Friday 9:30am-5:30pm
  • Flexible work schedule including nights and weekends as needed to assist in coverage of load-ins, technical rehearsals, load-outs, run-outs, special projects, etc.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as a shop carpenter alongside the TD and ATD in fabricating scenic elements for each production.
  • Practice safe work practices in line with PT policy.
  • Complete individual projects as assigned in a timely manner.
  • Act as run crew/props crew/etc on 3 production over the season.
  • Oversee a load-in or entire projected as proven capable.
  • Lead and/or assist departments as needed and capable.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or comparable work experience.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Able to read and understand technical drawings.
  • Carpentry skills and ability required. Welding, rigging and scenic artist skills are a plus.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Standing, walking, bending, frequent use of hands, stooping and heavy lifting (at least 50 pounds overhead) as needed.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

2017-2018 Stage Management Intern

Stage Management Intern

Department: Production
Reports to: Director of Production

Summary

  • Under supervision and mentorship of the Director of Production and contracted professional Stage Managers, this position will assist in the smooth operations of performances in the Assistant Stage Management role with the opportunity to take on larger projects as proven capable.

Work Schedule

  • During rehearsals: Tuesday-Sunday 2:00pm-11:30pm
  • During runs/between shows: Monday-Friday 9:30am-5:30pm
  • Flexible work schedule including nights and weekends as needed to assist in coverage of performances, load-ins, technical rehearsals, load-outs, run-outs, special projects, etc.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in creation and maintenance of Stage Management paperwork including but not limited to: Run Sheets, Tracking Sheets, Contact Sheets, Call Sheets, etc.
  • Support and work with Stage Managers on productions as assigned.
  • Tracking and running properties, scenic elements, costumes, etc. as needed for the successful excecution of a production.
  • Lead and direct crews from 1 to 10 individuals in the completion of the above duties.
  • Assist in production department calls as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or comparable work experience.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to multi-task both large and small scale projects simultaneously.
  • Clear, concise and empathetic communication skills.
  • Attentive to the needs of others in supporting artists in working at their highest level.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft and Mac environments.
  • Able to read and understand technical drawings.

2017-2018 Production Management Intern

Production Management Intern

Department: Production

Summary

  • Under supervision and mentorship of the Director of Production, this position will assist in the management, tracking and facilitating of all production operations across PT’s two city producing season.

Work Schedule

  • Monday-Friday 9:30am-5:30pm
  • Flexible work schedule including nights and weekends as needed to assist in coverage of load-ins, technical rehearsals, load-outs, run-outs, special projects, etc.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in creation and maintenance of organizational calendar, production calendars and departmental calendars.
  • Track and reconcile budgets and expenses for productions.
  • Schedule and assist in the running of regular Production Meetings.
  • Maintain inventories of tools, equipment and fixtures.
  • Track consumables and coordinate orders across productions.
  • Assist in contract creation, distribution and execution.
  • Lead and/or assist departments as needed and capable.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor’s degree or comparable work experience.
  • Diverse breadth of knowledge of production departments.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to multi-task both large and small scale projects simultaneously.
  • Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills.

2017-2018 Arts Administration Intern

Arts Administration Intern

Reports to: Director of Operations and Development Director

Employment Status: Unpaid Internship, Stipend Provided

Summary

  • Under supervision and mentorship of the Director of Operations or the Development Director, based on area of interest, this position will assist in development and company management related activities. Intern with work in both departments but area of focus will depend on interest of applicant.

Work Schedule

  • Monday-Friday 9:00am-5:30pm
  • Flexible work schedule including nights and weekends as needed to assist in coverage of special events, fundraisers, artist liaison needs, and other office coverage.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in finding, booking and communicating artist travel and housing;
  • Assist in tracking of budgets and expenses for artist travel, housing and transportation;
  • Assist in upkeep of company vehicles;
  • Assist in creation and distribution of correspondence to donors;
  • Assist in planning and implementation of donor events;
  • Assist in coordinating board and artists participation in fundraising activities;
  • Assist in fundraising activities related to fundraisers, raffle, and/or annual campaign;
  • Assist in grants research and preparation;
  • Assist in entering and maintaining donor, artist and patron information in our CRM database;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or comparable work experience;
  • Meticulous attention to detail;
  • Ability to multi-task both large and small scale projects simultaneously;
  • Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong interpersonal and/or customer service skills;
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft and Mac environments;
  • Driver’s license preferred, but no mandatory.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Long hours of desk work, driving, walking, standing;
  • Ability to focus in a small and noisy office environment.

2017-2018 Artistic Intern

Department: Artistic

Reports to: Artistic Director and Artistic Associate

Employment Status: Unpaid Internship, Stipend Provided

Summary

  • Under supervision and mentorship of the Artistic Director and Artistic Associate, this position will assist in the management and tracking of all jobs that take place in within the Artistic department.

Work Schedule

  • Monday-Friday 9:30am-5:30pm
  • Flexible work schedule including nights and weekends as needed to assist in Mainstage productions, new play development workshops, staged readings and special projects.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in casting and tracking all Mainstage and second stage productions as well as staged readings and special projects within the 2017-2018 season
  • Assistant Direct one Mainstage production
  • Assistance with Educational programs
  • Some duties will be determined with the Artistic Director depending on the applicants skills and interests

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or comparable work experience.
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-task both small and large scale projects within a fast paced work environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft programs; word, excel etc.
  • Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills.
